Recycling

Acceptable Recycling Materials
Only place recyclable materials into your recycling container!
Please rinse food and beverage containers and crush plastics.

Glass

  • All colors of glass beverage and food containers. (Please rinse and remove lids)

 

Metal

  • Aluminum cans
  • Tin/steel food and beverage cans
    (Please rinse- Labels are okay)

 

Plastic Containers with recycling symbols 1-7:

  • Milk and juice jugs
  • Shampoo, detergent, and other household bottles (Please rinse and remove lids)
  • Soft drink and water bottles
  • Yogurt, margarine, and other food containers

 

Paper Most clean and dry household paper.

  • Cardboard (Bundle larger pieces and place next to container)
  • Computer paper
  • Envelopes (Including plastic window types)
  • Food boxes (cereal, crackers)
  • Junk mail and catalogs
  • Magazines and phone books
  • Newspaper

 



Unacceptable Recycling Materials
Please do not place the following non-recyclable materials into your blue container!

Construction Debris
  • Concrete, rocks, dirt

 

Electronic / Universal Waste

  • Televisions, computers, cell phones, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, mercury switches

 

Unacceptable Glass, Metal, Paper and Plastic

  • Place these items in your garbage container.

 

Household Hazardous Waste

  • Paints, solvents, motor oil, cleaners, corrosives, fuel tanks - propane tanks, syringes, medical waste

 

Yard Waste

  • Leaves, small branches, grass clippings

Yard waste collection is available to all residents in the City of Chico for an additional fee. For more information, or to sign up, please contact a customer service representative.

 

Acceptable Yard Waste Materials
Only place yard waste materials into your green container!

 

  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves
  • Pallets (broken down)
  • Scrap wood Non-painted & non-treated; nails ok
  • Tree and bush prunings
  • Weeds

 

Important Yard Waste Notes!

  • Tree and shrub prunings must be cut small enough to fit inside the container.
  • Fill your provided green container completely before using any personal containers or bundles.
  • Do not place yard clippings in plastic or paper bags.  Place green waste loose in container.

Garbage

Gray Garbage Cart

Anything that does not go into the recycling or yard waste container can be put into the garbage container (except for prohibited waste).

  • Ceramics, Pyrex, porcelain, stemware, or other dishware
  • Light bulbs
  • Mirrors or window glass

 

Metal

  • Foil
  • Pots and pans
Organic Material

  • Plywood or particle board
  • Palm leaves, cactus, pampas grass, ice plant

 Paper

  • Milk cartons and other waxed paper, plates, cups, paper or cardboard contaminated with food.

 

Plastic

  • Plastic bags or wrap
  • Styrofoam/polystyrene containers and packing peanuts
  • Toys, furniture and flower pots

Bulky Items

Bulky Item Collection - Couch on the Curb

Recology Butte Colusa Counties offers a special pickup service for large or bulky items from your curbside. Couches, mattresses and washing machines are examples of bulky items which are too large to be disposed of with your normal collection. These items can be collected from the curbside and disposed of for an additional fee.

Proper Container Placement And Storage
